My University Diary

Hello all :)

As promised from last week's blog, here is the first installment in my new series 'My University Diary'. I'm going to write posts about my experience at university and any tips and tricks I have. :)

So, this blog post is actually about Choosing the right university and course for you. So, I know that some of you will be starting university in the coming months and let me tell you, BEST experience of my life to date!

Without further ado, let's get into this shall we?

The University
  • Location...
    • At this point, don't just focus on the course itself, but really think about the university. If you're not sure where it is, check google maps (no harm, I had to do that haha). Decide right at the beginning if you'd rather be close to home or further away. I judged mine by travel time from home to university.
  • Individual Campus...
    • You may or may not be aware that there are two main types of university campuses, a town campus, and a city campus. Even though they pretty much explain themselves, I'll indulge you in what I've learned anyway.
    • Town campus - Accommodation in your first year is generally (but not always) on the same campus as the university, which definitely makes it easier to settle in to university life.
    • City campus - The accommodation can be spread across the city, therefore you may have to walk long distance or take public transport to get to your class.
The Course
  • Choosing the subject area...
    • Just a heads up, you don't have to do the exact same course at university as you have at college.
    • Think about what you're really interested in doing for the rest of your life.
  • Choosing your course...
    • When looking at which universities offer which courses, really read up information on the courses.
    • Most prospectuses (University booklet which contains all their courses) will have a breakdown on what the course contains such as: the length of the course and where the campus is, as well as explaining the course in detail.
    • Really make sure that you read the fine print of the course, because the last thing you'll probably want is being two years into the course, and something pops up that you don't want to do. (This could result in a change of course/university if you wanted to.)
I hope this information has been helpful and that you're all enjoying your summer!

Stay tuned for next week where I reveal more information on my experience at university.

As usual, if you have any questions, leave them in the comments box below :)

See you later! xx
