Today comes with another -but penultimate- 'My University Diary' post, so enjoy!
Truth: You won't finish your first year of university feeling £9,000 smarter...
It's quite likely that your first year contains a lot of recapping knowledge you already know. Just because you already know it, don't shrug it off, sometimes the small details can be more important than the larger ones.
Truth: You'll meet some of your best friends at university...
It may not happen in your first year, or it may happen with the first person you meet, but throughout your time at university, you'll definitely befriend some people for life. The things you'll have in common, complaining about university, professors, assignments, as well as chatting about common themes and your interests. If it hasn't happened yet, be patient, it will.
Truth: You will 'never drink ever again' at least ten times...
Actually, this isn't true for every student, but I've definitely witnessed it with more than half of the students at my uni. Truthfully, provided that when you drink, you're safe with it, who actually cares? You're legally allowed to drink and that's what you're supposed to do at uni right? :P
Truth: If you care about your dissertation topic, it's really fun to write...
Don't worry when it comes to your final project or dissertation. As much as it may feel like you're thrown in the deep end with no help, literally everyone around you will offer you help if you ask. You'll have designated tutors to help you through, but you may feel that your peers are more essential to you at that point. They're going through the same thing and it's best you stick together and feed off of eachother. It's fun, honest! :)
Truth: University's not for everyone...
I've heard this a lot, especially through college and my first year of university. It can seem like you have to go to university, but in all actuality, university may not be right for you. Don't feel like a degree is essential, because in the end, it's a piece of paper to hang on your wall.
Myth: Everyone goes out on student nights...
This kinda relates back to 'You'll meet some of your best friends at university'. If you don't feel like going out, don't. There will be other students that are of the same mindset as you. On the other hand, if you do want to go out, then do! Don't let anyone or anything stop you from having a good time, whether you're out with friends, drinking the entire contents of a club ;) or whether you're in your flat with your friends just chilling. Life has literally -but not literally- become your oyster. (Oysters are gross and expensive... No thanks!)
Myth: House parties are so much better than town...
Once again, this is quite dependant on personal preference. Often pre-drinks will be held in someone's flat before the congregation lead into town, and it shouldn't take you too long to find out which you prefer, if any. You could love both, there's no problem with loving either, both or neither. Whatever makes your life that bit more pleasurable.
Myth: Student accommodation is horrendous...
Now... I leave this one down to luck. My oh my have I seen some student housing that I wouldn't be seen dead in, but sometimes it's the only option. My boyfriend and I got lucky with our one-bedroomed flat (which we lived in for two years). It still wasn't amazing, but it was lovely. The only advice I can give on this subject is really to view properties. If there's one that you feel is the one, take it on a whim. Use your gut feeling, sometimes it's actually right!
That's all for today! I hope you've enjoyed reading this and as always, if there's anything you want to know, or anything you'd like a blog post on just let me know in the comments below.
For now,
Seeya later! xx
